Man caught after apparently staging suicide to avoid prison

A St. Johns County man who disappeared after going fishing and leaving a suicide note in his truck declaring he would rather kill himself than serve a 15-year prison sentence has been caught by police, according to Times-Union news partner First Coast News.

Early Wednesday morning, Robert Edward Crews was found at his home on White Tower Road in Hastings, according to the station.

Crews was to be sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday but disappeared after telling his wife he was going fishing Monday evening. A suicide note was found in his truck Tuesday morning and a boat was found near the jetties of the St. Augustine Inlet Tuesday morning.

Sgt. Chuck Mulligan of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said Crews was apparently involvedin a stabbing overnight.

According to First Coast News Crews had gone to a home on Elizabeth Drive. A woman who was stabbed at the home was taken to Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries.

Man fatally shot on the Westside last night

A man in his early 20s was shot to death outside an apartment on the Westside last night.
According to Sgt. Dan Janson with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, police responded to calls of shots being fired just before midnight at the Grand Court apartment complex in the 7600 block of Blanding Boulevard near Collins Road.

Janson said police discovered the man’s body outside one of the apartments with gunshot wounds.

Police said they have identified the man but are not releasing his identity till relatives are contacted.

Police also said there was no known motive for the shooting at this time but that police were canvassing the area for possible eyewitnesses and are continuing to investigate.

The shooting brings the number of homicides in the Jacksonville area to 113. Last year, there were 152 known homicides.

Oui, bon, c'est quand même drôle quand un même mot a deux sens très différents dans deux langues.

Alors apparemment les patates poussent dans les arbres aux States...

Notre GPS du WE. Un vrai mec avec un bon sens de l'orientation qui valait bien mieux que notre Richard (le GPS à 150 dollars) qui était tout chamboulé ces derniers jours. Cet incompétent nous a fait faire une bonne vingtaine de demi-tour avant que Michou ne décide de prendre les choses en main !

Et le soleil revient sur la route du retour. Blague...

Après quelques centaines de marches et la peur de tomber nez à nez avec un employé de l'hôtel, une fenêtre et sa vue sur le golf (pas assez de trous selon le belge).
