A St. Johns County man who disappeared after going fishing and leaving a suicide note in his truck declaring he would rather kill himself than serve a 15-year prison sentence has been caught by police, according to Times-Union news partner First Coast News.
Early Wednesday morning, Robert Edward Crews was found at his home on White Tower Road in Hastings, according to the station.
Crews was to be sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday but disappeared after telling his wife he was going fishing Monday evening. A suicide note was found in his truck Tuesday morning and a boat was found near the jetties of the St. Augustine Inlet Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Chuck Mulligan of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said Crews was apparently involvedin a stabbing overnight.
According to First Coast News Crews had gone to a home on Elizabeth Drive. A woman who was stabbed at the home was taken to Shands Jacksonville with serious injuries.
